Mad for Dance Studio: Swing/Lindy Hop and Tap classes

This is a dance studio in downtown Toronto. Toronto Dance in conjunction with Swing and Tap Academy conducts dance classes in Swing/Lindy Hop and Tap at this location.

There is no air conditioning in the studio but it is in the basement of a big office building. Wear light clothing during the summer months.

Building Location and Directions

Mad for Dance Studio is located at 263 Adelaide St. West, in the Putnam Building. Enter via the main entrance, go down one floor, go through the (unlabelled) door on the left, and you will see a sign for "Mad for Dance" in room B-10 and go through the door on the right for room B-30.

Directions via TTC

Go on the University Line (west of the Yonge Line). Go to the St.Andrew subway station which is 1 stops north of Union Station and 5 stops south of St.George Station. St.Andrew station is at the corner of King St and University Ave. Exit the St.Andrew station on the west side of University Ave. Keep walking west 2 streets to Duncan St. Turn right to go north 1 street and turn left/west on Adelaide St. The Putnam Building at 263 Adelaide St is on the south side of the street.

Directions via Driving

Drive along Universtiy Ave and turn onto Richmond St (one way street going west). Go 3 streets to John St and turn left/south. Go 1 street and turn right/east on Adelaide St (one way street going east). The Putname Building is near the corner. Look for parking on the street or parking lots.

For those coming from another city, drive along the Gardiner Expressway and use the "York-Bay" exit. When you exit, stay on the right lane, which will curve around. Once it curves, stay on the left side to go on York St, heading north. Once you pass under some bridges, at Front St, stay on the 2 left lanes to curve left to University Ave. Turn left/west on King St, go 3 streets and turn right/north on John St. Go 1 street and turn right/east on Adelaide St (one way street going east).

Dance Hall

The classes are held in the larger studio. The floor is wood. Here is a picture of the dance hall (room B-10).

Parking

There is a lot of construction along Adelaide St so it is hard to find street parking. There may be some parking west of John St or on other streets. There is a parking lot just west of the building or one further east along Adelaide St which is flat-fee ($5) after 5pm.
